What's up guys! Welcome back to yet another blog where I will be discussing everything Overseas basketball!
ICYMI: Last week I discussed just how to get the opportunity to play basketball overseas. I gave you guys 8 steps , and I really hope you guys took those steps into account because those are the "secret sauce" that could possibly get you on a team and get you paid. Is that not the ultimate goal? Well let's work then...
In my third blog I want to shift gears just a bit to discuss just what is the Euro league? Reason being is because this is a premier league in the "overseas" basketball world, and you may have a shot at playing in this league one day.
There are specifically two questions I want to tackle...
How long has the Euro league been around?
What does the Euro league have to offer?
*I'll try not to make this a history lesson* Lock in.
What is the Euro League?
It is a European professional basketball league
Very much a top tier league, and it is made up of 18 teams and they typically compete in Europe
The league was first introduced in 1958 by FIBA (International Basketball Federation) which is home to some of the top players in Europe
The hottest name that you may have heard of as of right now is Victor Wembanyama . Who is a 7 foot 3, 18-year-old French Basketball player whose stock has risen just for showcasing his incredible skill on the court... and not to mention that HE IS 7'3!!!
*Click his name to see his highlights*
One of the most popular indoor sports leagues in the world with an average attendance of 8,878 per match, which ranks amongst top 5 in the world for professional indoor sports
The history of the European league is very rich. Most NBA players tend to veer over to the Euro league when they do not make an NBA roster. Why is that though? What separates the Euro league from maybe the NBA G-league?
Well, the Euro League is an extensive league that is hard to get in and maintain a spot. We are talking about some of the best players in the world are all competing for spots. So how would you separate yourself from those players?
Players like Shane Larkin who played a few years in the NBA went and played in the Euro League for "Anadolu Efes Istanbul", which is an overseas team located in Istanbul, Turkey, has made a name for himself and is still waiting for another shot at showcasing what he can do. But what may have influenced him to play in the Euro league?...
What does this league have to offer?
Exposure/ Great competition
As I stated before, this league is FULL of high-level talent, and you will be challenged day in and day out. But it offers a chance for you to expand your game and become a better player!
Money
This is a big one. When thinking about playing professionally, one of the things that come to mind is how much money will you make. We all know that the NBA kills the money game with the highest paid salaries in the world. But overseas clubs do not tend to make it public how much they pay their players.
From what I could find the Euro League teams offer a typical salary of 65,000 to 100,000 dollars a year to non-star players. That isn't extremely bad, but that should motivate you to become the best you that you can be so that you can get a higher salary!
This is the end of my third blog, thank you all for your support and be sure to tune in next time where we will be discussing the title "Transitioning", where I will be discussing some of the players who had to go from the top of the chain to a lower level. Be sure to tune in next week! #overseasbasketball #besafe #D1athlete #hoops #salaries #thirdblog
