Blog #1: What is Overseas Basketball?

Hello my fellow hoopers! My name is Isaiah Wilkins, and I am new to this blogging gig, but I am not new to the world of basketball. I have been blessed enough to play basketball at the Division 1 level and I am going into my last year of collegiate basketball this year. I have had the opportunity to play at Virginia Tech for two years, Wake Forest University for one year and I am finishing my college career at Longwood University (located in Farmville VA) this year. I have had a up and down career at the college level. From playing a lot, to barely playing, to not playing at all. Just sometimes things don't always work out the way you plan them. But you can only control what you can control and let the chips fall where they may. Luckily for me, the chips fell at the perfect time.

I am in my 5th year of college basketball and my second year at Longwood University, where we just came off of a trip to the biggest tournament in college basketball. The NCAA TOURNAMENT!!! History was made at this school, and I am so proud that I was able to be a part of it and we are looking to go back-to-back this year!

Ok. Now. Enough about me, you're really here to see if I am worth listening to. I can tell you I am but how does that make anything I say credible? Well yes, I am still in college, and I have no experience playing basketball overseas... yet. But I do, do my research and I am just here to inform you, so you don't have to look it up yourself.

I am going to be discussing the ins and outs of overseas basketball. We all have those dreams and aspirations to make money playing the game that we love, but we don't always know where to start. That is where I come in to assist, get it? In this series of 8 blogs, I will be giving out nuggets catered to overseas basketball. In this first blog I will be setting the foundation for the rest of the blogs by just discussing what exactly overseas basketball is.

Overseas basketball simply put is professional basketball. It's not like playing with your friends in the driveway or playing at LA fitness. These are grown men who have been playing basketball for 20+ years and they are typically good at what they do. With overseas basketball there are many things that come with it. You receive perks to play at that level. Those will be discussed more in future blogs. Playing overseas is also a gateway to getting looked at by even bigger leagues such as the NBA, and even bigger overseas teams who pay more and is in perhaps a better location. Playing basketball overseas is exactly what you may think. It is playing outside of the United States. You can be anywhere, from Europe to Australia to China depending on if you have a credible agent, but even if you make it to that level, you must not become complacent for at the end of the day, it is a business and if you aren't producing then they will find someone who will.

If you love the game of basketball and you think this is what you want to do, join me in my next blog for I will be discussing "How to get the opportunity" to play overseas basketball. Thank you for reading my first ever blog post and I am looking forward to doing more! #overseasbasketball #besafe #D1athlete #hoops #firstblog
